Neuromuscular Therapy

Neuromuscular Therapy is a hands-on treatment that works with the nervous system and its governing action on the muscles.

Muscles that are strained due to injury, postural distortion or Repetitive Stress Syndrome (RSS) demand a greater, more frequent and intense stimulus from the Central Nervous System (CNS.) A muscle becomes tight or spasms when it receives stimulus from the CNS to do so. Once the stimulus from the CNS travels down the spinal cord and takes a path to the injured muscle, it subsequently becomes easier for the stimulus to travel the same path again. Over time the CNS will continue to send stimuli down the path of least resistance, creating chronic pain.

The only way to stop this chronic pain is to stop the recurring stimulus from the CNS to the musculo-skeletal system. Usual attempts to treat chronic pain involve painkillers, muscle relaxants or bed rest. Some of these may help temporarily, but do not address the root of the problem. Neuromuscular Therapy effectively gets to the core problem, lowering the stimulus to the painful muscles, and breaking the cycle of pain.

However, in today’s world, the CNS is frequently overtaxed due to stress, overwork, lack of sleep, improper nutrition, and poor biomechanics. This overtaxing can cause the CNS to re-stimulate and over-stimulate the affected muscles. For example, if a person works a long workweek and doesn’t get enough sleep, he or she may feel their pain gets more intense, or they may find pain from old injuries returning, starting the pain cycle all over again. The muscles that are continually responding to the CNS to contract or spasm become weak and ischemic, robbed of fresh blood, nutrients and oxygen. The weakened, ischemic muscles can no longer support the skeletal structure, resulting in even greater muscle imbalance and postural distortion.

Healing Path 3 combines Neuromuscular Therapy with Kinetic Link Training and Oriental Medicine to address the root problems in a unique way, nourishing the CNS and the entire body, allowing it to regain postural integrity and fully recover.
